Martin Margiela

Born in 1959 in Limbourg, Belgium, he studied at the Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts and was among one of the first talents in town.
He began his professional career as assistant to the great Jean Paul Gaultier, and in 1988 he founded his own Maison Martin Margiela in Paris where he made his debut with the collection Spring-Summer 1989.

His approach gave voice to a new democratic fashion style that aimed at the sartorial freedom of the 70s, and favored the use of recycled materials and did not perpetuate the concept of fashion as a luxury and a display of wealth.

He is considered a real shaker of the fashion system: by removing his name from the label, he took the life out of his clothes and became abstract... the legendary tag, fixed with only four stitches, is left blank to let his creations speak for themselves.
